Effectiveness of Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine Intervention on Patient Outcomes Related to Gut Health and Mental Wellbeing: A Real World Evidence, Open-Label Study
Aim
The study will collect patient-reported outcomes (PROs) using a series of validated measures alongside some non-validated tools, with the aim to assess the impact of nutrition and lifestyle medicine interventions on gut health and mental wellbeing using the WeCudos web-based clinical outcomes tracking platform.
Methods
A research cohort of 50 practitioners will collect clinical outcomes from their patients using the following validated patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) to collect data on gut health:
- The Bristol Stool Scale, Lewis and Heaton (1997)
- The Measure Yourself Medical Outcome Profile (MYMOP), Patterson (1996)
The study will also use the following validated PROMs in order to collect non-diagnostic measures of mental wellbeing:
- The Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale (WEMWBS), Stewart-Brown et al. (2007)
- The Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), Smith et al. (2008)
- The Subjective Happiness Scale (SHS), Lyubomirsky and Lepper (1999)
The data collection process will be fully automated. Patients will receive links to the PROM questionnaires by email or SMS so that they can complete them at their convenience using any device that’s connected to the Internet. Practitioners will only have access to their own patient data.
Patient data will be anonymised, grouped by outcome, and stored ethically and safely in a data bank that’s fully compliant with EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and as well as FDA Data Integrity regulations. Multiple regression analysis will be performed to estimate potential relationships between the gut and mental wellbeing outcomes collected.
Study Info
WeCudos is currently recruiting 50 nutrition practitioners who are committed to clinical excellence and who are interested in engaging with patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) as well as with the technology that will enable them not only to collect data but to gain valuable insights from it. As a participant you will be expected to use the WeCudos clinical outcomes tracking platform in your clinics for 12 weeks. You will be trained on how to use the platform as well as on the PROMs that are included in the study and you will achieve a substantial number of hours of CPD approved by British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT)*
Important: You don’t need to enrol clients who have active gut or mental wellbeing issues. You’ll be gathering information about these health areas from them, but any of your clients can participate.
The study will be 12 weeks long, during which time participating practitioners will be expected to collect data from their patients at regular intervals.
